THE COLON

The colon or large intestine is the end portion of the digestive tract. It is 5 feet long and 2 ½ inches wide. The main functions of the colon are:

  • complete the digestive process
  • Absorb water, vitamins and short chain fatty acids
  • Eliminate byproducts of digestion and toxins
  • Protect the body from infection and disease

Without regular bowel movements the bowel can become mishapen. The picture below illustrates the colon in different diseases.

During a colonic hydrotherapy treatment the muscles of the colon are toned and exercised thereby improving the shape.
